Square Piano by Clementi & Co., London c.1810–15

We are pleased to offer for sale this fine square piano by Clementi & Co., made in London c.1810–15. This piano has a compass of 5½ octaves (FF–c4), with a double action and Irish mopstick dampers with a pedal operated sustain. The case is in mahogany with line inlay, a brass ‘wheat–ear’ moulding and brass satyr masks. There are three drawers below and the instrument rests on six turned and reeded legs with brass collars. The original green painted dustcover is present.

To the left of the keyboard where there would normally be a four or five digit serial number stamped, there is only stamped the number ‘877’. However, this instrument does retain Clementi’s inked, cumulative serial number on the wrestplank which is often lost, in this case ‘12009’.

This instrument is tuned to a¹=415.

Case dimensions: 1678 × 592 × 234mm.

This instrument has been fully restored in our workshops.

Sold in October 2012.
